About Leitat
Leitat is a technological center with extensive expertise in developing innovative and sustainable solutions for complex environmental challenges, particularly in water treatment and resource recovery. In the REWASH project, Leitat contributes its expertise in materials engineering, photoelectrochemical processes and bioelectrochemical systems, leading the design, construction and functional optimization of photoanodes based on Earth-abundant metal oxide semiconductors, as well as the engineering of conductive substrates and electroactive biofilms for bioelectrodes. Leitat is also responsible for the design, operation and scale-up optimization of both the flow photoelectrochemical (PEC) reactor and the multi-chamber bioelectroconcentration (BEC) reactors for simultaneous nutrient recovery and wastewater polishing. Furthermore, Leitat leads the physical integration of the REWASH functional modules into a proof-of-concept prototype.

About JSI
Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) is a scientific research institute with specialized expertise in microbial biotechnology, strain selection, high-throughput microfluidic screening and 3D microbial community engineering. As a pioneer in spatial placement and colloid biology of microbial cells, JSI brings this core capability to address the key challenges. Within the REWASH framework, JSI leads the isolation, characterization, and selection of bacterial strains and environmental micro-consortia capable of metabolizing plastic monomers. JSI applies its proprietary polyelectrolyte-driven cell aggregation approach to construct spatially organized Synthetic Communities (SynComs) that facilitate cross-feeding interactions and steer biotransformation routes toward polyketide (PK) scaffolds. JSI is also responsible for optimizing culture conditions, evaluating multi-strain stability, and establishing downstream separation and purification protocols for microbially produced bioactive compounds.

About CITEVE
CITEVE is a specialized technological center dedicated to providing technical support, testing and innovation to the textile and clothing industry. In the REWASH project, CITEVE brings domain expertise in industrial textile processes and microfiber release mechanisms. CITEVE leads the production and physicochemical characterization of controlled, simulated textile wastewaters containing microplastics and microfibers under standardized methods (e.g., ISO 4484, AATCC TM212). In addition, CITEVE secures industrial engagement by sourcing real wastewater samples from textile manufacturing plants for pilot validation, tracks microfiber degradation before and after treatment and performs technical assessments regarding potential applications of project-derived value-added chemicals within the textile value chain.
